This quarter’s Art Full of Heart recipient was chosen by ZNE Fondante Member, Pam Peters. (pampeart).

In 1975, Pam lost a daughter to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Pam says that her daughter, Jessica Linn Peters, was gorgeous and healthy. “Jessica would be a woman of 30 today….if she had lived past 4 ˝ months.” Pam goes on to explain SIDS and her experience:

“SIDS is the sudden death of an infant under one year of age which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history. Many more children die of SIDS in a year than all who die of cancer, heart disease, pneumonia, child abuse, AIDS, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy combined.

There is no more devastating loss than the death of a child. Sudden death is a contradiction to everything that is known to be true in life. Losing a child to SIDS is a disruption in the natural law and order of life. It is a heartbreak like no other.

Parental grief is different from other losses—it is intensified, exaggerated and lengthened.

Last year, in the USA, nearly 3000 normal, healthy babies died of SIDS.
