Oh, indeed ~ this delightful summer is well underway! I am pleased
to report that the sun, heat, and fun, has not deterred ZNE from
providing our members with a bevy of fun activities, and ~ as always
~ we have more on the way!

Dear ZNEers,
WOW! Is it the third week of April - already!?
Springtime is upon us, and finally, here in Northern California,
we’ve had some sun. Its been nice to get outside with my kids and
p~l~a~y!
Another nice thing is that regardless of the weather outside, the
sun is always shining at ZNE! I am delighted to report that last
month we had a fabulous Live Chat with ZNE Member Claudine Hellmuth.

And… speaking of April and “bright” futures… the application
deadline for the first annual ZNE Learning Scholarship just passed,
and I am delighted to tell you that we have over 30 wonderful
applications! A committee is in place and will begin reviewing
applications in May, and in July - we will unveil the ZNE Gallery of
Applicant Art, along with announcing the three recipients of this
year’s scholarship awards. Woo-Hoo! This particular program is really
close to my heart, and I am very excited about being able to assist
struggling artists in pursuing their art education!

Dearest ZNEers,
Happy Valentines Day!!
~ When you love…
all your saved-up wishes start coming out.~

Do YOU have saved up wishes? Celebrate love, and let them out!
I am one of those slightly less than romantic people when it comes
to this commercialized day of amour… but don’t get me wrong, I
firmly believe in celebrating love, every single day of the year.
I, of course, love my family. I love my home and love this fabulous
corner of Northern California that I am so blessed to be living in. I
love being a mother and love my dog as if he were a third, bit more
“furry” child… and needless to say, I love art.
When ZNE began, close to a year ago - I had hoped to meet a few
artists who could teach me something about my beloved craft, and I
had hoped to create an online home for those artists like me, who -
at times - felt a little bit lonely, isolated, or just plain bored
every now and again.
I never imagined that I would find deep and lasting friendships,
learn more than I could ever dream of, rub shoulders with some of the
best artists in the world, and grow to ~indeed~ LOVE ZNE with such a
passion. And, it is true. All my saved up, life long, whodathunkit
dreams began to surface, and thanks to all of ZNE’s wonderful members
and supporters - every single day, those dreams continue to come true.
So, commercial though it may be - I say Go For It! Celebrate Love!
And Happy Valentines Day to each and every one of you - from ZNE!

I am delighted to be a collector of Pam’s work. I have her little
pieces here and there, all around my house, and I have and continue
to give her wonderful artwork as gifts. Pam is not only a creative
and delightful mixed media artist, but she is also an accomplished
water colorist, her paintings are absolutely gorgous!
Pam lives in beautiful Northwest Montana. She studied art in High
School and then took a 30 year hiatus to work in Nursing, Social
Work, Motherhood, etc. When she decided to paint again, she studied
watercolor at the Glassel School of Art in Houston, Texas.
Best of all, for all of us - Pam is an active and proactive member
of ZNE. She is not only a seller but also a purchaser of the arts,
supporting many of her fellow artists along the way. Pam has
contributed artwork and images to be used in The ZNE Cafe Press
Store, and she is one of the artists featured in the innaugural issue
of The ZNE Zine. Most recently, Pam sent in a big ‘ol bag full of
goodies (that she somehow expects me to part with) to list in the ZNE
Store in order to help provide funds for more advertising and

Dearest ZNEers!
A New Year wish going out to each and every one of you, for a year
ahead full of creativity, success, abundance and joy! I have a
resolution this year - to learn more about desktop publishing and
newsletter production. Ha! You can see the fruits of the beginnings
of my labor, here in this oddly formatted email. I’ve figured out a
few things - but certainly not all! Bear with me and all the
formatting quirks, and keep your fingers crossed that the next issue
of The ZNE Scene will be even easier to follow! Speaking of the new

Activities!
Art Full of Heart
I am delighted to let everyone know that ZNE has made a $200.00
contribution to the Aids Resource Center of Wisconsin. This donation
reflects our disbursement for the first quarter’s Art Full of Heart
Recipient Program. Thank you to ZNE member Liz O’Bear (tornandfrayed)
for suggesting this wonderful organization!
Our second quarter recipient was chosen by ZNE Member Pamela Peters.
Pam is a Fondante Member of ZNE and her incredible mixed media artwork
and stunning watercolors inspire and thrill us all. In 1975, Pam had
beautiful and healthy daughter - Jessica Linn Peters. Sadly, Jessica
died of SIDS at the age of 4 1/2 months. Undoubtedly - Pam has
suffered one of the greatest losses a human being can endure. This
makes her creative drive and generous spirit all that more
inspirational. In honor of Pam, and in memory of her daughter Jessica
- this quarter’s Art Full of Heart recipient is First Candle / SIDS
Alliance.

ZNE will donate $1 - $2 per member, for every new member who joins
during this quarter. In addition, should anyone be moved to send in
donated art or art supplies for the Art From the Heart program - The
ZNE Store will list those, and all proceeds will be donated to First
Candle. Should you wish to make such a donation, please mail your
contribution to ZNE, with a note specifying that the items are for
the Art From the Heart Program recipient.

Which is a wonderful segue to a fantastic piece of news! Our very
first print ‘zine - The ZNE Zine (what else!) with the theme of
“Embark on New Beginnings” is being assembled as we speak. I
anticipate that issues of this incredible Zine will be available for
purchase TO ZNE MEMBERS ONLY (!) on January 20, 2005. In mid
February, sales will be opened to the general public. This is an
incredible issue chock full of full color artwork (most of which has
never before been seen) by over 30 contribuing artists, an article on
Slide Mount Art by Deb Neerman, a wonderful section of artwork
culminating in a fun collaborative art project and contest - hosted
by Bruce Miller - and lots of little goodies and suprizes!
Ok everyone! Get out there and start working on some White Winter
theme week art, start making some 4″x4″s for the ZNE Zaftig project,

**WOW! Free, for me!?
Want to get a FREE limited edition altered art postcard??
Several months ago, ZNE member artist Kristen Peterson (ebay id= lolat-530) won our ZNE Welcome Postcard contest. And, her winning entry has been turned into an amazing postcard, and the postcards have arrived!
This is a limited edition run of around 300 postcards, and when they run out – they will not be reprinted. Instead a new postcard contest will be held.
In the meantime, if you want to receive one of these fantastic cards in the mail – ZNE will send you one. You just have to do ONE thing – INTRODUCE YOURSELF on the ZNE Supporting Member discussion boards, under “Roll Call!”

I want to take a moment to acknowledge ZNE Fondante Member, Linda Mitcheltree – eBay id “full*moon – who was perusing our website, and – to her horror! – saw her artwork attributed to another artist. We’ve straightened out the misattribution, and are very appreciative of her patience and understanding. For the month of December – we have moved her lovely artwork (with her name under it!) to our home page – to ensure that everyone knows she is the one who created the lovely collage!
Finally, if you all haven’t stopped by The ZNE Store lately, by the end of today we’ll have over 100 listings up in that store - so stop by! I’ve been meaning to remind you all that if you change your eBay user id’s (specifically, seller ids where you might be using ZNE in your listing titles), or if you have more than one user id – please do send us a quick note to let us know. We keep a roster of member ids – as occasionally we let non-members know that they “are using ZNE in their listing titles in error” – and we don’t want to accidentally send you the notice, because we don’t have your accurate id.
~Finally…~
Well, there never does seem to be a “finally” with ZNE – as we are such a vibrant and active group, and always have so much going on! And for that, I thank each and every one of you. That being said, note that our live chat with Claudine Hellmuth is most definitely in the works, but we are putting off our entire live chat series until the beginning of the year – so you’ll hear more about that soon. ZNE e-cards will be debuted soon too – so you’ll hear more about that. More activities are on the horizon. Look for the debut of our long awaited ZNE Zine in the coming months, news about our first ever ZNE Convention (in Las Vegas!) in just over a year, sales of ZNE member created artwork greeting card sets, a new regular activity and contest to be debuted in January – the “Found Object Follies” – AND MORE!
Those of us in the United States are gearing up for Thanksgiving in a few weeks, and on that note, I want to reiterate again, how very thankful I am for all of our fabulous members – no matter what country you are from – you are a valued member of this community, and I appreciate you!
